Episode 4
MOVING RIGHT ALONG...
Hello. Rosa here.
So here’s the thing…
After my first date disaster with Paul, I started to think that maybe it’s meant for me to be single forever.
And then I starting thinking there are over 7.7 billion people in the world and about half of them are men. And out of those several billion, there has to be AT LEAST one or two that are suitable. There just has to be.
So now I’m feeling more positive about the whole thing and I decide that if I meet someone else, I’ll give it a try.
Enter Sebastian, this really cute guy at work that I have coffee with sometimes in the cafeteria. One day as we’re sipping our coffee, Sebastian asks, “Hey, have any plans for Saturday?”
“No. Not really. Why?”
“How about dinner and a movie?” He asks.
So now I’m sitting there stunned trying to figure out what to answer as I’m looking at him and asking myself, Should I? and then I think, Well, why not? I’ll keep my options open. And it can’t be any worse than Paul, so I say “Sure, sounds nice!”
Saturday comes. Sebastian picks me up right on time. Good start. “You look great.” He says.
Huh! On time and says nice things. My smile couldn’t get any bigger.
He takes me to this Mexican restaurant. The food looks good AND he doesn’t try to order for me. I’m grinning.
We talk. It’s easy. He tells me that he’s writing a play. I knew he wrote, but I didn’t know that. As we’re talking, I’m thinking, ‘Wow! This guy is REALLY interesting!’
Then it gets better! Sebastian says “Hey! Maybe you could star in my play.” Now there’s an ego boost! I’m feeling flattered. He actually thinks I could be a star! ME!! My mind starts racing. Who knows? Maybe this could be the start of a new career! Maybe I could end up on film! Could this evening get any better? I’m thinking, disaster date, take that - cause we’re on a roll with this one. Little tiny hearts start dancing around my eyes.
Dinner ends. We go to the movie. It’s a long one and I’m looking forward to sitting next to him for the next three hours. I picture him slowly reaching over to hold my hand as the lights darken. Ah… tingle… tingle…
We chat happily until the movie starts. Then… I know… you can almost hear the doom music, right?
Out of the corner of my eye, I see him move his hand. I eagerly nudge mine over, sure he’s going to reach for it. But, he puts his hand up to his mouth and starts burping. Ewwwwww……. Gross. And then I think, Oh, he’s not touching my hand and I move it away. I hope that’s it, but he continues burping. And burping. One burp after another. And it just doesn’t stop. And even worse… I can smell the Mexican food. Yuck!
I ask him if he’s okay and he says yes. But he keeps burping. I ask him if he wants to leave and he says no. And he keeps burping.
I notice that people are turning their heads in our direction, including my boss that I spotted two rows in front. Ohhhhh….. they’re really looking annoyed! But what can I do? Can I just pretend that I’m not with him?
The intermission starts, he stops burping. Ah! Finally! It’s over. But nope, it wasn’t. As soon as the movie starts up again, so does the burping! I try to sink down as far as I can in my seat. Never thought that red plush velvet would seem like such a good hiding place.
Finally, the movie ends and he drives me home. When it comes to kiss goodnight, he leans towards me. I turn my head so that his kiss lands on my cheek. Just can’t do it. I just can’t. Nope, no way.
